notes |
Rigdon
Lakes, an oft-visited destination from North Waldo Campground,
forms the centerpiece for an easy half-day loop that's gentle
enough for children or the aerobically challanged. From North
Waldo Campground, head west on the Waldo Lake Trial (not the
shoreline trail closer to the lake) for 1.7 miles to the Rigdon
Lakes trail, Which forks to the right. Walk three fourths of
a mile to Upper Rigdon Lake and skirt the east shore, deciding
whether to follow the side trail up to good Waldo Lake views
on Rigdon Butte. From here drop about 1.25 miles to the lower
lake and continue a short distance to Lake Kiwi and a junction
with the Wahanna Trail. Turn south and walk 1.3 rhododendron-lined
miles back to Waldo Lake, at the outflow of the North Fork of
the Middle Fork of the Willamette River. It's a quik, three-mile
hop, skip, and jump back to the car. the total elevation gain
for this pleasant loop is fewer than 300 feet. Be prepared for
mosqiuto bombardment in summer months. |
