Westfir was built in 1923 by Western Lumber Company. Captain Starbird designed the lumber mill and construction began in the summer of 1923 and lasted precisely two years. The dam was built in 1924, only to be washed out in the winter of 1925. In 1945, the Westfir Mill was sold to Edward Hines Lumber Company for $2 million. The Office Bridge was built in 1944 at the north edge of Westfir. This historical landmark is the longest covered bridge in Oregon. It was originally connected the mill with the mill office (hence the name). It has a covered walkway on one side, which makes it like no other bridge in Oregon.
